Meet Jason

Jason Piontek has called South Bend home for over 26 years. After proudly serving in the US Army for six years, Jason was accepted into the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 153 as a Journeyman Inside Wireman.

Jason has worked in various aspects of the Electrical Industry for over 20 years, and five years ago, he was named Assistant Business Manager of IBEW Local 153. This role has afforded several opportunities to serve the membership Jason represents and the working-class community at large. Since 2019, Jason has been a citizen member of the South Bend Public Works & Property Vacation Committee Member and in 2020 he was appointed by Mayor James Mueller to the South Bend Area Plan Commission. Jason currently serves as the 1st Vice President of the Northern Indiana Area Labor Federation (Indiana AFL-CIO) and on the Indiana University Labor Studies Advisory Board.

In addition to volunteering for municipal committees and boards, Jason has volunteered in other community events like Rebuilding Together, Stuff-a-Bus, and the Marine Mud Run. For over ten years, he has volunteered as both a Head Coach and Assistant Coach for organizations like East Side & Chet Waggoner Little League, Pop-Warner/Inner City Catholic League football, and Michiana Soccer Association.

In 2019, Jason earned a Bachelors in Labor Studies from Indiana University South Bend, and in 2023, he received his Masters in Professional Studies (Human Resources and Employment Relations) from Penn State University.

Jason is married to his best friend, Jenny Piontek, who many may know through her involvement with Portage Manor. Together, they have raised six children, three of whom are students (one receiving his Doctorate at Notre Dame, one at Indiana University, and one still at St. Joe High School), one is a teacher in Chicago, one is in DC working as a Capitol Police Officer, and one who works in the service industry while raising a family.

Because of Jason’s background and experience, he is the best-qualified candidate to serve the Citizens of St. Joseph County and the residents within District D. With his knowledge and understanding of the working class, especially with the unprecedented growth coming to this area, Jason can offer working families of South Bend and St. Joseph County a voice and representation.
